How to Turn Simple Ideas Into Unique Concepts (Creativity Blast)

Why Most Ideas Stay Basic

Most ideas never go beyond their initial form.

They stay:

  • predictable

  • safe

  • and familiar

But creativity happens when you push beyond what’s expected.

What Is the Creativity Blast Exercise?

Creativity Blast is designed to:

  • stretch your imagination

  • break assumptions

  • and transform simple ideas into something original

You start with a basic subject… and push it as far as you can.

How It Works

Choose a simple subject.

For example:

  • a mug

  • a chair

  • a letter

Break it down into its basic shapes.

Place those shapes in the center of your page.

Set a timer for 10 minutes.

Now begin expanding outward.

Push, Stretch, Transform

Draw variations by:

  • stretching proportions

  • exaggerating features

  • combining new elements

  • exploring unexpected directions

The only rule is:

It should still be recognizable as the original subject.

Explore Without Limits

This is where you allow yourself to:

  • be playful

  • be experimental

  • and take creative risks

You might turn:

  • a mug into a rocket

  • a chair into a character

  • a letter into an environment

The goal is not realism.

It’s exploration.

Why This Exercise Works

This exercise helps you:

  • break out of normal thinking

  • challenge assumptions

  • and discover new directions

It trains your brain to go beyond the obvious.

Capture the Best Ideas

If something stands out during your exercise:

  • mark it

  • circle it

  • come back to it later

These quick sketches can become the foundation for fully developed projects.
